News reports coming from Presidential Task Force during the Monday Edition of giving update on COVID-19 lockdown situation in the country, the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, said that Nigeria Federal Government has approved the “safe reopening” of schools in the country.

Boss Mustapha disclosed the information that schools can now resume nationwide during the press briefing and added that the reopening of schools was meant to allow students in final year (graduating classes) to resume back to session with the aim of preparing for their final examinations.

Schools in Nigeria have been put on lockdown by Federal Government for over two months since the deadly virus, coronavirus outbreak in Nigeria. Nationwide lockdown in the country is not only place on schools but also on several other sectors too to combat the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

This is a good news for all Nigerian students, who has been at home for three months. They can now resume their academic calendar and prepare for the final year examinations. Most especially for JSS 3, SS 3, Polytechnic and University final year students.

The new development by Federal Government to reopen schools nationwide is part of considered things in the next phase of the gradual easing of lockdown in the country to combat and limit the spread of COVID-19. The Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha said that the latest developments were contained in the task force’s fifth interim report which was submitted to the President Muhammadu Buhari earlier on Monday to preview and approve.

“I am pleased to inform you that Mr President has carefully considered the 5th Interim Report of the PTF and has accordingly approved that, with the exception of some modifications to be expatiated upon later, the Phase II of the eased lockdown be extended by another four weeks with effect from Tuesday, June 30, 2020 through Midnight of Monday, 27 July, 2020.




“Specifically, however, the following measures shall either remain in place or come into effect:

1. “Maintaining the current phase of the national response, for another four weeks in line with modifications to be expatiated by the National Coordinator;

2. “Permission of movement across state borders only outside curfew hours with effect from 1st July, 2020;

3. “Enforcement of laws around non-pharmaceutical interventions by States, in particular, the use of face masks in public places;

4. “Safe re-opening of schools to allow students in graduating classes resume in-person in preparation for examinations;

5. “Safe reopening of domestic aviation services as soon as practicable;

7. “Provision of technical support for states to mobilise additional resources for the response.”
